DESCRIPTION:Events 1\n\n\n\nThis in-person workshop teaches the unique set of skills necessary to succeed at solar grazing. You will learn key topics and best practices fundamental to using sheep to manage vegetation on solar energy sites.  \n\n\n\nCertified by the American Solar Grazing Association \n\n\n\nHaving completed this course\, you will be recognized as an ASGA Certified Solar Grazier. This status includes a digital badge\, listing on ASGA’s solar grazing map\, and inclusion in the Certified Solar Grazier Directory. You will also receive valuable take-home resources for further study and reference.  \n\n\n\nCourse Overview:  \n\n\n\nThis course consists of on-line prerequisites followed by two days of in-person training in the classroom and on an actively grazed solar field. The site tour will be at Nexamp’s Northway Solar\, grazed by Lewis Fox and Niko Kochendoerfer of Agrivoltaics Solutions.  \n\n\n\n\nDates: June 23rd – 24th\, 2026\n\n\n\nTime: 8:00am to 5:00pm \n\n\n\nLocation: Plattsburgh\, NY & Northway Solar\n\n\n\n\nThe course material meets the ASGA Solar Grazing Standards. Highlights include: \n\n\n\n\nPrinciples for positive partnership with your solar asset managers\n\n\n\nVegetation Management and Strategies: setting performance standards\, developing grazing models\, mechanical control options\, seeding\, and forages\n\n\n\nSheep Management and Welfare: Health and disease\, flock movement and handling\, predation\, transportation\, nutrition and water\, seasonal management\, and lambing on-site\n\n\n\nSite infrastructure: fences\, gates\, sensitive structures\, wire management\, and retrofitting sites not originally designed for sheep\n\n\n\nSolar site production basics and safety on-site: understanding equipment functions and risks\, and best practices for personnel and sheep\n\n\n\nBusiness topics: budgeting and start-up costs\, bidding\, contracts\, insurance\, signage\, and interacting with the public\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegistration\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThank you to our sponsors\, ACE NY and NYSERDA!
