SUMMARY:Iowa State University Agrivoltaics Open House
DESCRIPTION:Iowa State University\, has initiated a public-private partnership with Alliant Energy on the design and construction of the The Alliant Energy Solar Farm at Iowa State University where they explore growing crops within and around photovoltaic (PV) panels to quantify the benefits of agrivoltaic practices. At this site they explore a subset of agricultural activities most amenable to the unique environment of a solar farm\, and develop best practices for economic and environmentally sustainable production practices conducted within solar farms designed for mega-watt scale production. This partnership allows them to estimate the impact of agricultural practices around PV panels on the microclimate and subsequent PV efficiency. They will measure these potential impacts while also analyzing the multiple economic costs and values to developers\, utilities\, farmers and rural communities affecting agrivoltaic development in the Midwest. They have assembled a multi-disciplinary team\, in cooperation with public and private entities\, to address the intersecting needs of various stakeholders including but not limited to: PV developers and utilities with contracts for PV\, landowners\, and farmers interested in agrivoltaics. This DOE funded project will determine if and under what conditions agrivoltaic practices in the Midwest can benefit local food production systems and what resources are needed to assist multiple stakeholders. \n\n\n\nIowa State University is offering a 2025 Open House Series to visit the Alliant Energy Solar Farm. \n\n\n\nAlliant Energy Solar Farm 52166 260th StAmes\, IAUnited States \n\n\n\nLearn more: https://agrivoltaics.research.iastate.edu/ \n\n\n\n\nRegister

SUMMARY:Mainstreaming Vertical PV and Agrivoltaics
DESCRIPTION:For solar projects in 2025\, finding space on crowded electricity networks is a major concern. Many are looking to co-located storage as a solution\, but vertically-installed bifacial PV modules offer another potential route to delivering PV energy at different times of the day. As PV penetration in mature markets surpass 15% (Germany\, 2024)\, we see that the effect of solar generation in the spot market prices is becoming critical to calculate the profitability of each new project. \n\n\n\nVertically installed PV produces most of its energy outside of the main generation hours of south-facing PV plants\, opening the door to a higher profitability of the system. In this webinar\, we’ll examine the part vertical PV can play in addressing low and negative electricity prices\, and securing long-term profitability for solar projects. The case for vertical PV is particularly compelling for projects on agricultural land\, and will be further explored through a look at one of the most developed markets for these agrivoltaics\, in Italy. \n\n\n\npv magazine Webinar content:• Vertical PV installation – opportunities and challenges• Market opportunities in agrivoltaics – lessons from Italy• Innovation and trends in heterojunction cell technology• Q&A \n\n\n\nLearn more: https://www.bigmarker.com/pv-magazine-events/pv-magazine-webinar-mainstreaming-vertical-pv-and-agrivoltaics?utm_bmcr_source=spnl&utm_source=Global+%7C+Newsletter&utm_campaign=58be6d23b6-Webinar_Huasun&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_6916ce32b6-58be6d23b6-160573644&ct=t(Webinar_Huausn)&mc_cid=58be6d23b6&mc_eid=d44b110fc8 \n\n\n\n\nEvent Page

SUMMARY:Answering the Energy & Agriculture Emergencies in Farming Communities Pt 1
DESCRIPTION:Join the Solar Farm Summit community on Zoom or YouTube June 4 at 11AM ET for a preview of the incredibly robust program the 2025 Solar Farm Summit\, the details about the student Dual-Use Design Competition and 2025 North American Agrivoltaics Awards finalists and voting process\, and start digging into the foundational forces driving the dual-use development renaissance forward in the first of a short summer webinar series featuring our very own Executive Producer\, and global macro strategist\, Dan French! \n\n\n\nA “new” solar renaissance is starting to add-value to agriculture and harvest compelling results around the world in revolutionary dual-use developments known as “agrivoltaics\,” or solar farms able to be agriculturally productive while simultaneously producing electricity and thereby eliminating present land use tradeoffs. A French vineyard in Tressere this fall\, for example\, harvested +60% more chardonnay grapes of better quality with less irrigation in its solar tracking trellis–consistent with similar recent results achieving more and better quality grapes under solar panels in Italy. \n\n\n\nBeyond clean and local electricity\, solar can do more. A lot more. When developed with agriculture or conservation in mind\, solar can do things otherwise hard or impossible to achieve. Solar can save farms\, start farms\, diversify production\, preserve and protect land\, create habitat and enhance biodiversity\, and revitalize rural communities. It already is\, here and there\, but agrivoltaics is ready to scale to new heights of productivity. \n\n\n\nWith record growth in energy demand that is forecast to endure for a generation\, America is going to need all the power it can get. And with rural America and farming communities still facing steep structural disadvantages\, the need for broad investment and a virtuous cycle of sustained growth remains acute.  \n\n\n\nCan agrivoltaics match the problems plaguing farms and farming communities with the opportunities that the solar investment tsunami could offer? What will it take to cultivate the agrivoltaics opportunity in fields far and wide\, effectively double the harvest\, and reap the full potential of this rare stack of homegrown benefits? And can the a cornucopia of electrical and agricultural performance of these dual-use systems be harnessed to cultivate another order of local economic development opportunity entirely. \n\n\n\nDon’t miss this free webinar June 4 at 11AM ET for the first in a short summer series exploring these questions and surveying the incredible breakthroughs being achieved in the nexus of agriculture and energy in these agrivoltaics and ecovoltaics enabled solar farms! \n\n\n\nTo learn more or register for the 2025 Solar Farm Summit\, please visit: https://solarfarmsummit.com/ \n\n\n\nRegister: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/answering-the-energy-agriculture-emergencies-in-farming-communities-pt-1-tickets-1367565779059 \n\n\n\n\nEvent Page

SUMMARY:NDSU and UMN Extension Sheep Solar Grazing Producer Panel
DESCRIPTION:Sheep producers will share their firsthand experiences with grazing sheep under solar panels at the new agrivoltaics webinar series hosted by North Dakota State University Extension and University of Minnesota Extension at 7 p.m. on May 20. Panelists will address logistics\, animal husbandry and business management skills needed to successfully graze solar sites for vegetation management. \n\n\n\nGuest speakers will discuss how the innovative practice of agrivoltaics impacts their operations\, as well as the environmental benefits\, the economic considerations and the practical challenges faced in managing livestock alongside renewable energy infrastructure. \n\n\n\nSheep solar grazing producer panelists include Jodee Nohner\, the grazing coordinator for Minnesota Native Landscapes. Nohner brings a rich heritage of agricultural expertise as a fifth-generation sheep farmer. For the past two years\, Nohner has been a key team member in the grazing division at MNL\, a progressive operation managing 1\,500 hair sheep for solar grazing and restoration projects.  \n\n\n\nOlivia Halbur is the fourth generation to farm on her husband’s family farm in Fond du Lac\, Wisconsin. They recently leased 30 acres of their farm for 5 megawatts of solar energy production so that her family could still farm those acres by grazing the sheep. Halbur manages the vegetation with Texel sheep grazing under the solar panels. \n\n\n\nEvan Gunthorp\, along with his parents\, owns Traditional Grazing Solutions\, a company based in LaGrange\, Indiana. The company offers comprehensive vegetation management with mechanical mowing to supplement their focus on grazing. Currently\, Traditional Grazing manages and owns 900 ewes grazing on 900 acres of solar land. \n\n\n\nLearn more: https://www.ndsu.edu/agriculture/extension/events/ndsu-and-umn-extension-host-agrivoltaics-webinar-series-highlighting-sheep-solar \n\n\n\n\nEvent Page

SUMMARY:ASGA Call 87: Solar Grazing and the Targeted Grazing Handbook
DESCRIPTION:When sheep ranchers manage their flock on solar sites\, they are continuing the rich agricultural history of targeted grazing in the United States and realizing its many established benefits for a new type of client: the solar industry. \n\n\n\nFor this month’s webinar\, we’re tapping into the resources of the wider targeted grazing world by inviting the folks who wrote the book on targeted grazing. Dr. John Walker (Emeritus Professor\, Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Extension) and Erica Sanko (American Sheep Industry Association) will be presenting ASI’s new handbook\, Targeted Grazing 101: Starting and Sustaining a Grazing Service Enterprise. The handbook teaches practical\, applied skills gathered from interviews with more than three dozen experienced targeted grazers to help aspiring grazers understand what it takes to thrive in the industry. \n\n\n\nAfter the presentation\, ASGA Board Members Jonathan Barter and Ryan Indart will discuss how targeted grazing applies to the solar site context. They’ll address what’s similar between traditional targeted grazing operations and solar grazing. Expect to learn about the unique challenges that operating sheep on solar sites presents\, including some of the particularities of serving solar companies and managing vegetation around solar arrays. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nASGA Call 87: Solar Grazing and the Targeted Grazing HandbookMonday\, May 5th at 6:00pm ET \n\n\n\n\nRegister here\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nASGA is pleased to have had the opportunity to support the solar grazing aspects of this handbook as part of the publication review team. Lexie Hain (ASGA President\, Lightsource bp) provided her expertise to the publication. JR Howard (ASGA Advisory Board) and Ryan Indart (ASGA Board of Directors) provided case studies to the project\, and a number of ASGA members contributed to the handbook.  \n\n\n\nSolar graziers and solar owners and operators might want to consider having a copy of this valuable resource on hand. You can purchase a copy of the Targeted Grazing 101 handbook here: https://www.sheepusa.org/product/targeted-grazing-101 \n\n\n\nRegistration here.

SUMMARY:3rd California Germany Agrivoltaics Conference
DESCRIPTION:Fields of Innovation: Agrivoltaics as the Cornerstone of Future Farming \n\n\n\nAgrivoltaics represents a vital step forward in the global clean energy transition\, poised to play a crucial role in achieving the ambitious clean energy targets set by regions such as Germany and California. \n\n\n\nGermany brings sophisticated solar technology and insights from established projects\, while California offers extensive agricultural landscapes and a vibrant entrepreneurial spirit. Enhanced transatlantic collaboration and best-practice-sharing will accelerate the sustainable growth of the Agrivoltaics sector. \n\n\n\nLeveraging the significant successes of previous conferences\, we are again set to host California’s leading platform for Agrivoltaics. This event aims to facilitate the exchange of knowledge\, unite key stakeholders\, and enhance collaborations that will position Agrivoltaics as the central pillar for sustainable farming in the future. \n\n\n\nHere are some key questions that will be addressed: \n\n\n\n\nHow can agrivoltaic systems be optimally designed to maximize both solar energy production and agricultural yield?\n\n\n\nWhat are best practices from real-life projects and sustainable business models that deliver value to all agrivoltaics stakeholder groups?\n\n\n\nHow can agrivoltaic installations be integrated into smart grids or microgrids to enhance energy efficiency and stability?\n\n\n\nand beyond\n\n\n\n\nAbout the conference \n\n\n\nThe California Germany Agrivoltaics Conference was created to strengthen transatlantic collaboration in this important sector\, promote idea exchanges\, and create an ecosystem from which all players involved can benefit. The goal is to build strong German-American partnerships that will lead this growing market of agrivoltaics. \n\n\n\nThis conference is a joint initiative of the co-organizers Representative of German Business (GACC West)\, UC Davis\, and Sunzaun\, supported by the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection. \n\n\n\nTickets are non-refundable 30 days prior to the event start date. \n\n\n\nLearn more: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/3rd-california-germany-agrivoltaics-conference-tickets-1286645534429?aff=erelexpmlt \n\n\n\n\nEvent Page
