ASGA Certified™ Solar Grazing Training Programs
ALB-ASGA Certified Solar Grazing Training Workshop in Maryland
August 11 @ 8:00 am – August 13 @ 5:00 pm EDT

The American Solar Grazing Association is excited to announce that the American Lamb Board will be hosting a ASGA Certified Solar Grazing Training for farmers this August (08/11-08/13) in Queen Anne’s County, Maryland.
The workshop is sponsored by Urban Grid and the onsite portion of the training will be hosted on their Jones Farm Solar Site.
Over the 3-day training, participants will learn the solar grazing training standards set by ASGA, which covers the basic subjects a sheep rancher should be versed in to manage vegetation on a solar site. The workshop includes a live demonstration on a site grazed by solar sheep.
New solar projects are creating opportunities for sheep producers to graze their flocks on solar sites and start solar grazing enterprises. We look forward to hosting sheep producers from the state and nearby areas to learn about running a solar grazing operation.
Topics covered at the workshop include:
- Vegetation Management Objectives and Strategies
- Seeding and Forage
- Sheep Management and Handling
- Sheep Nutrition
- Working with Site Infrastructure to Accommodate Sheep
- Contracts
- Budgets and Start-up Costs
- Insurance
- Signage and Public Interaction
- Solar Site Production Basics
- Working with the Solar Company
- Safety on Solar Site
- Regulatory and Taxation Issues
- Timelines and Checklists
The ASGA Certification Program is part of our ongoing efforts to develop a workforce of qualified solar graziers and help sheep farmers realize the incredible opportunity solar grazing presents. To receive the ASGA Certification, workshop participants are required to also be ASGA members. Join ASGA here.
