ASGA Wraps Up Our Final Solar Industry Training of 2025 in South Texas!

We were thrilled to host another “What to Expect When You’re Expecting Sheep” workshop for solar companies at Leeward Renewable Energy’s Morrow Lake Solar in South Texas.
The training session provided asset managers, developers, operations teams, and solar industry professionals with an in-depth overview of solar grazing and how sheep management can benefit their site operations. We covered everything from the basics of sheep operations to guard dogs to site design considerations for solar grazing.

Reid Redden from Premier Solar Sheep led the workshop and shared his extensive solar grazing experience and knowledge. Ely Valdez of Solar Farm Grazing and South Texas Curbing led a tour of the Morrow Lake Solar. His flock of sheep maintains the vegetation on the solar site and we were able to see his sheep and learn how he manages the operation. Solar graziers Kade Hodges (Hodges Livestock) and Chad Raines (Key Farms) shared their knowledge with workshop attendees and participated in the solar grazier panel during the event.

Thank you to everyone who participated in our final workshop of 2025. We especially want to thank Leeward Renewable Energy for sponsoring and hosting this event.
This marks our fourth solar company training of 2025. We launched the program in May to help provide training and technical assistance to solar companies that have sheep on their sites or plan to utilize solar grazing.
The program has been a huge hit. Over 100 solar industry professionals have taken the certification course this year alone.
These workshops are part of ASGA’s ongoing efforts to provide education around solar grazing best practices for both farmers and the solar industry. We look forward to continuing them next year. Keep an eye out for our 2026 workshop schedule!
