Midwest Solar Grazing: Opportunities, Challenges, and Lamb Marketing with Greg Gunthorp (ASGA Workshop Replay)
Watch the recording for our discussion with hogfarmer Greg Gunthorp, who recently began a utility-scale solar grazing operation in Indiana. Greg has a long history in the farm to market meat industry and he brings that interesting background to solar grazing. His pork and poultry can be found in the Chicago Cubs’ clubhouse, restaurants in O’Hare Airport, Disney, and renowned Chicago, Indianapolis, and Fort Wayne restaurants. We had a great discussion talking about his experience with meat marketing and organic farming and why he saw solar grazing as an major opportunity. The discussion covered the commonalities he saw between the farm to market boom in the 90s and solar grazing, as well as some of the shared skills both require, including the professional “service provider” approach mindset grazing requires to manage the relationship with solar companies. Greg gave us insights into his grazing operation and how it fits into his farm business, including his plans for lamb production and sales.
